The Nov. 8 article on our voting system ("Election activists call for return to paper ballots") was misleading in that it implied there are only two choices for how New Yorkers will vote in the future: (1) electronic touch-screen voting machines, or (2) paper ballots that must be hand-counted. We know from experiences in other states that the electronic machines are unreliable; none have been certified to meet New York's standards. We also know that hand-counting paper ballots in a state as large as New York would be a nightmare of probable errors, fraud and untimely results.
