Labor flexed its muscle in Lane County on Tuesday when hundreds of grocery workers voted to authorize a strike if their union and their employers can't hammer out a new contract soon.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 555 represents 1,200 workers in the grocery and meat departments at Albertsons, Fred Meyer and Safeway stores in Eugene, Springfield and surrounding communities, such as Cottage Grove and Junction City.
