DENVER - The odds of a strategic alliance between American Telecasting Inc. and U S West Inc. grow longer with each passing day.
Despite obvious synergies - ATI has wireless cable systems in eight U S West states - industry experts believe ATI will ultimately align itself with another RBOC, or perhaps a long-distance carrier.
U S West, they say, has committed itself to traditional wireline cable with its acquisition of a 25 percent stake in Time Warner Entertainment, and full ownership of Wometco Cable and Georgia Cable TV, with systems located in the ninth-largest market in the country.
