It's a good thing I didn't take any bets. Last week people were asking me if I thought Frederick C. Rushton would ask for a recount of the balloting for mayor, in which he (unofficially) lost to Konstantina B. Lukes by 105 votes.

I told inquirers that I did not expect the District 5 councilor and his advisers to do that. I anticipated that they would conclude that 105 votes was too large a gap to be reversed in a recount, so they would refrain from seeking one. I guessed they would settle for whatever credit they could get for saving the city the cost of a recount.
