WORCESTER - Nipmuc has been on the verge of capturing its first state championship of the new century for three straight seasons. Unfortunately for the Warriors, after last night's 3-0 loss to Western Mass. champion Hampshire Regional on Commerce Bank Field at Foley Stadium, they'll have to try again next year.
The Red Raiders (19-0-1), who last won a state championship during the Gerald Ford administration in 1975, advanced to the Division 2 State championship against Eastern Mass. titlist Sharon at 11 a.m. Saturday at Westboro High.
Nipmuc, a loser in this semifinal for the second time in three years, finished 20-2.
