Low-fare giant Southwest Airlines has landed at the top at Norfolk International Airport. The airline has taken the No. 1 spot as dominant carrier for the calendar year - at least so far.
Recently, Southwest taxied ahead of longtime leader US Airways. Through September, Dallas-based Southwest commanded 22.64 percent of the local air travel market. Arizona-based US Airways trailed at 22.27 percent. Atlanta-based Delta followed with a 20.39 percent share.
Airport officials predict Southwest will hold the lead through the end of the year.
