WORCESTER - A Fitchburg man who put seven bullets into the body of a friend - five of which still remain - was sentenced to state prison yesterday.
Demetrius J. Hammond, 20, of 32 Townsend St., Fitchburg, was sentenced to 4 to 6 years in Walpole State Prison after pleading guilty in Worcester Superior Court to charges stemming from the Feb. 15, 2006, shooting of 18-year-old Gamba Payton. Mr. Payton was shot seven times and hospitalized for about a week and a half at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, according to Assistant District Attorney Lawrence J. Murphy.
