Many women choose to live with hot flashes rather than treat them with medication. But according to a study in the March/April issue of Menopause, women with hot flashes have higher blood pressure, a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Are hot flashes really something to leave untreated?
"There's nothing in this study you can take out and give to women as advice. And it's not going to change the way physicians treat hot flashes or hypertension at this point," says Margaret Mary Polaneczky, MD, a gynecologist at Iris Cantor Women's Health Center of Weill Cornell Medical College.
