Adolescence is a period characterized by a heightened interest in sexual activity and an abrupt surge in the sexual drive, with friends of the opposite sex being viewed from a different perspective. Such developmental characteristics, combined with greater cultural tolerance toward sexual relations in Korea, tend to incite adolescents to engage in premature and risky sexual behavior, including the initiation of sexual intercourse.
