Adolescence is a period characterized by a heightened interest in sexual activity and an abrupt surge in the sexual drive, with friends of the opposite sex being viewed from a different perspective. Such developmental characteristics, combined with greater cultural tolerance toward sexual relations in Korea, tend to incite adolescents to engage in premature and risky sexual behavior, including the initiation of sexual intercourse.
According to recent studies in Korea, 13.0% of high school students have experienced sexual intercourse, of which 26% use contraceptives, and 6.5% of girls have been pregnant at some point in time, of which 76.8% undergo abortions. (1) ...
