European Mistletoe (Viscum album L.) contains three groups of glycosylated isolectins of the RIP II typ, mistletoe lectin I ( ML I), ML II and ML III, which recognize sugars and glycoconjugates containing galactose and/or N-acetyl-galactosamine groups. In order to identify role of glycosylation glycan motifs of several native, deglycosylated native forms and non-glycosylated recombinant forms of ML were compared quantitatively. By comparison of the results of chemical and enzymatic deglycosylation of the denaturated lectins we show, which lectin chains are glycosylated and how many sugar side chains form the glycan part of the lectins and which role plays truncation of the ...
