This is the second edition of Simpson's popular introduction to the developing world first published in 1987. It largely follows the same structure as the first edition, although alterations have been made in the order and combination of chapters in Part Two. Revisions to the text generally follow the format of final sections in each chapter bringing the material previously included up to date, although other minor changes have also been made. Figures and tables have all been updated, greatly improved in quality and reduced in number, but the plates all remain the same.
