This volume contains a tale within a tale. The first is the purported memoir of the second Madame Chiang Kai-shek. The second outlines the obstacles placed in the way of the memoir's U.S. publication. This second tale is far more intriguing and gives limited credibility to the first. Lloyd E. Eastman contributes a short introduction. The text is assumedly nearly verbatim, without explanatory notes or indication of editing.
