Gloss paints which have been formulated to meet the 50 gram/liter regulations may require new formulation and application techniques to optimize appearance. Many Coatings manufacturers are concerned that painting techniques which have been used with higher VOC aqueous or solvent paints may give poor appearance in these low-VOC paints, especially in the areas of brushed flow and open time. A study has been conducted to determine the optimum rheology, formulation space, and painting techniques to use in applying 50 VOC gloss paints.
