THE [pounds sterling]120 million Westlink redevelopment has become a battleground and workers from the Banbridge district are regularly in the firing line, it has been claimed.
Stone-throwing thugs are targeting workmen on a daily basis and heavy machinery is continually being stolen or vandalised at the West Belfast site.
One worker was even shot with an air rifle and another hit with a brick as he operated a digger.
"It is totally out of hand," said one Banbridge workman, who did not wish to be named.
"We are being attacked by stone throwers every day and you simply can't leave anything unlocked for a second.
