Gipsies and travellers do not have enough official camp sites in County Durham, a year-long study claimed today.
The report recommended more permanent sites and urgent refurbishment of Durham County Council's six existing plots.
The survey, the first of its kind to be undertaken in the North East, said additional temporary stop-overs for families passing through should also be considered.
Liaison service manager Scott McInally said gipsies and travellers comprised one of the largest minority ethnic populations in County Durham.
