An Israeli company has patented a method for encapsulating hydrophilic fibres with a water-repellent surface in order to better control their moisture-management properties.
In International Patent WO 2006/051521,TelAvivbased Delta Galil Industries Ltd,which sells intimate apparel,men's underwear and socks around the world says its process reduces the water absorbency of hydrophilic fibres, particularly cotton or cellulose, resulting in yarns and fabrics with better moisture transmission. To do this, it encapsulates the fibres with nano-scale particles of silicone.
