Article: Albany convention center a huge waste that won't draw groups to area.(Perspective)(Letter to the editor)

The $325 million proposed convention center in Albany ("$300M gamble," Nov. 18 Perspective) is a terrible idea. Proponents wrongly assume construction of a world-class convention center will cause groups otherwise uninterested in Albany to hold their conventions here.

The lack of top-quality convention center exhibition space is likely one factor why certain conventions skip Albany. A more significant reason why Albany is passed over, and why Albany probably does not even make the short list for most major conventions, is because it is not a resort area or a vacation hot spot.
