WORCESTER - One of the city's four election commissioners, local lawyer John Goggins, has withdrawn from tomorrow's mayoral race recount because he contributed money to candidate Frederick C. Rushton's campaign.
"In order to avoid any appearance of bias in this matter, I hereby recuse myself from the recount," Mr. Goggins wrote in a brief letter delivered to City Clerk David J. Rushford on Friday.
Mr. Goggins, one of two Democratic appointees to the Board of Election Commissioners, gave Mr. Rushton $100 on May 26, according to state campaign finance records. His wife, Gina, also contributed to Mr. Rushton's campaign, ...
