I don't watch a lot of TV and rarely channel-surf. So an interactive on-screen guide to make surfing efficient and help plan my viewing for up to a week in advance would be overkill-or so I thought.
Spending several weeks with StarSight, the first over-the-air program guide to go national, convinced me I was wrong. Finding something interesting on the spur of the moment became less of a crapshoot. The ability to sort upcoming programs by type-Westerns, say, or mystery shows- encouraged me to plan ahead. And setting my VCR to tape an upcoming program or movie by pushing one button twice (once to record, once to confirm) was pure pleasure. Channel-stuffed cable ...
