There are not many books like this one. It contains nearly 150 full-page photographs taken in the 1920s and '30s by Thomas B. Marquis when he served as physician to the Northern Cheyenne on their reservation in Lame Deer, Montana. The photographs are accompanied by two sets of captions, the first made in the 1970s by Cheyenne informants, and the second made by Margot Liberty when she edited the volume in 2003 and 2004.
