Jacob Zuma's grand showing at the ANC polls this weekend was a death knell for a possible compromise candidate, analysts said yesterday.
Prof Adam Habib of the University of Johannesburg, said there was no way Zuma would agree to a compromise candidate, now that he had the strong smell of victory.
"It is becoming clear he (Thabo Mbeki) will be humiliated in Polokwane," Habib said describing this weekend's results as a devastating blow to Mbeki.
Prof Susan Booysen agreed that Zuma's "definitive victory" would be sending a message that the majority of the voting delegates did not need a "third-way" candidate.
