The Senate on Friday finished debate on the $242.7 billion FY '96 Defense Appropriations Bill but delayed a vote on the legislation until the Senate returns from recess Sept. 5.
Under procedural rules, the Senate must wait for the House to vote on its version of the defense appropriations bill before the Senate votes on the bill.
The Clinton administration requested $236.3 billion in defense appropriations.
In floor action late Thursday and early Friday, the Senate:
* Rejected an amendment by Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), that would have eliminated a $300 million add-on for national missile defense;
