Arkansas Loses 1,000 Jobs to Texas
Moving is always traumatic, particularly when a major employer in a struggling town pulls up stakes and heads over to a rival municipality.
When the move takes place in Texarkana - where the state line has become the front line in a sometimes bitter feud - it's even more likely to cause a dust-up.
In this case, the uproar occurred when St. Michael Hospital moved from Texarkana, Ark., to Texarkana, Texas, on Dec. 4, taking with it more than 1,000 jobs. It was just the latest in a series of economic setbacks suffered by the Arkansas town.
