Article: Kaman wins Military Sealift Command helicopter contract.(Kaman Aerospace's contract for K-MAX helicopters)

The Military Sealift Command yesterday awarded Kaman Aerospace a $690,000 contract to provide helicopters and crew for a two-month commercial vertical replenishment demonstration to test the feasibility of operating commercial helicopters to support Navy ships at sea.

Kaman beat out bids from Sikorsky, McDonnell Douglas/Westland, and Petroleum Helicopters Inc., for one of the few pieces of new helicopter business (Defense Daily, Aug. 14).

The helicopters will lift cargo nets loaded with equipment between Military Sealift Command Combat Logistics Force ships and Navy combatant ships while the ships are operating.
