Five of Michigan's top religious leaders have told the owners of The Detroit News and Free Press to stop hiring replacement workers in the month-old newspaper strike.

The five join Cardinal Adam Maida who yesterday said that such threats sabotage the collective bargaining process the companies claim they want.

"A major obstacle to fair and meaningful bargaining is the unethical practice of hiring replacement workers such as has been done by the Detroit Free Press," said the statement by the five.
