WORCESTER - When Monday's marathon mayoral recount finally ended in the evening and incumbent Konstantina B. Lukes was declared the winner, runner-up Frederick C. Rushton rose from his seat, went over and gave Mrs. Lukes a hug in the middle of the City Council Chamber, amid applause from their family members, supporters and lawyers who remained in the chamber until the final vote was tabulated.
Mrs. Lukes reciprocated by hugging Mr. Rushton as well. It was a scene reminiscent of something you would see from two prizefighters after pounding each other for 12 rounds. The combatants may not like each ...
