President Franklin Delano Roosevelt predicted that Dec. 7, 1941, would be "a date which will live in infamy." The attack on Pearl Harbor by the naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan brought the United States into World War II, and also gave our nation the first casualties of that war.
Over 2,000 sailors died in the attack, along with several hundred more service members and civilians.
