After a series of delays approaching three years, The Boeing Co. is shifting work from Italy back to its own military modification facility in Wichita, Kan., in order to get eight 767 air-refueling tankers for Italy and Japan delivered next year.
Bottom line: Boeing has the experience to do the remaining work faster.
The situation, however, is not unlike what has befallen the 787 Dreamliner program, which is six months late, in part because of problems with Boeing's partners who are manufacturing the 787 wings and fuselage. One of those 767 partners, Alenia, is in Italy.
