THE brave actions of the town's lifeboat crew who battled to save the three people who died last Friday when their boat, Last Call, capsized, will go down in history.
The Whitby Gazette takes a brief look back at the major rescues of vessels at sea by the town's crews in recent years.
July 2003 - The D class inshore lifeboat saved three men in a small boat on 23 July which was in danger in three meter breaking seas at the mouth of the harbour. A framed letter of thanks signed by the chairman of the RNLI was given to helmsman John Pearson in recognition of his initiative and actions in raising the alarm.
