Capacity of sleeper coaches to be increased
New Delhi, Nov 30 (PTI) Railways will enhance the capacity of existing 3-tier sleeper coaches from 72 to 81 berths and manufacture new ones with capacity of 84 berths, Rajya Sabha was told today.
The increase in the capacity of existing 3-tier sleeper coaches is being made by provision of a foldable middle berth in each longitudinal bay.
The design and fitment details for the new arrangement for both the existing and the new coaches have been finalised with due consideration to passenger comfort and safety, Minister of State for Ministry of Railways R Velu said.
