AN EX-MARINE from Hebden Bridge who was one of the first four-man crew to row an Oceans Fours boat across the atlantic has completed a 155 mile marathon across the Kalahari desert.
Iain Lomas, who was given the nickname Yorkie in the Marines because of his Yorkshire roots, came 4th in the tough race.
He said that the marathon took a lot of preparation
"We ran as much as we could with 10K packs on our backs and built up to 13K - preparation of the food and deciding what to take was also important because we needed to keep the weight down."
After the Atlantic row he and a few friends decided to take on another challenge.
