I read with interest and approval "Goodbye to All That" by Steve Wasserman on the importance of literary journalism for newspapers (CJR, September/ October). It is mystifying why publishers don't appreciate the connection between serious books coverage and readership. Though a good paper devotes resources to court reporting, it never attempts to dispense with it because it doesn't attract advertisers. So it should be with book reviews.
