It was the late Jackie Mercer, an exceptional golf teacher well-known in KwaZulu-Natal, who gave me this tip on how to improve the rhythm of my golf swing.
She told me to softly say the name of my favourite professional golfer while I hit a golf ball - first name on the way back and last name on the down swing.
Well, he happened to be Severiano Ballesteros and, as a result, one thing I cannot be accused of is having a quick golf swing! Rhythm must be one of the most under-rated, yet crucial basics that need to be in place in order to achieve a consistent, repeatable, golf swing.
