GILLIAN Gibbons, the teacher jailed in Sudan for letting her students name a teddy bear Mohammed, is now free and in the safe hands of British officials.

Thanks to the swift diplomacy of Muslim peers Lord Ahmed and Baroness Warsi, Ms Gibbons' ordeal is over after she was granted a full presidential pardon yesterday.

This is great news. Her trial and sentencing was a mockery, and she should never have been imprisoned in the first place.
