I SUPPORT Saira Khan's call for Muslims to condemn the treatment ofGillian Gibbons, the British schoolteacher who was jailed in Sudan for callinga class mascot teddy bear Mohammed. The only people guilty of insulting Islamare those who allowed its name to be aligned with violence and injustice.
The earlier Mohammed cartoons did border on a powerful media lobby to insultIslam, but this teddy bear incident does not.
Islam came about in order to fight against greed, poverty, corruption anddiscrimination. It's a faith which seeks peace and forgiveness, not brutalityand retribution. That's the Islam my parents taught me.
