Article: Tutu redux.(letters)(Letter to the editor)

I enjoyed "The Story of the Tutu" in the Oct. issue. But Karinska did not create the tutu in the photo of Maria Tallchief. The wardrobe mistress, Dunya, made about 50 of them for the first Symphony in C. They were made of several layers of organdy, which could be starched and ironed. The tops and bottoms were completely separate. This kind of tutu was frequently worn for class.
