ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Darden Restaurants (NYSE: DRI) announced today it will discontinue the China Coast concept due to disappointing financial performance. The restaurant concept, which began expansion in 1993, failed to retain its initial strong opening volumes, and operating losses are well below recovery plans. The action was approved by the Darden Board of Directors on Monday.
Most of the employees will be offered positions at other Darden Restaurants, said Joe Lee, Chairman and CEO. I'm very proud of their effort. However, we decided to close China Coast now to stem further losses rather than continue through the end of the year. This is ...
