Work from the German art-punk group Die Todliche Doris (otherwise known as The Deadly Doris) opened last month at the Alt.Gallery, Newcastle (to February 9). It's one of the season's wittier acts of recovery, and a reminder that conceptual pop groups precede their recent manifestations in works by Jamie Shovlin, Ryan Gander and others. The Berlin group, founded in 1980, created a series of records, tapes, films and performances, and exhibited their work at Documenta 8.
