Moderate economic growth for the rest of the year will lead the Federal Open Market Committee to stay where it is on the current federal funds target and keep the discount rate steady, according to Smith Barney Inc. analysts Douglas Schindewolf and Mitchell J. Held.
The FOMC is scheduled to meet today to decide what it will do with the money supply.
"The (Federal Reserve Board) now is in the process of moving toward a more neutral policy stance - theoretically, a stance that neither restrains nor stimulates economic activity," said the two analysts.
