That is until the duet called PlayN-Skillz managed to prove the stereotype wrong and became Grammy award winners. The brothers Juan "Play" and Oscar "Skillz" Salinas, 26 and 24 respectively, are building a name and a place for Latinos in the business with their street-infected beats and raw sounds.
Born to a Venezuelan mother and an Argentinean father, it would have been more natural for the brothers to get into Latin music. However, growing up in "the hood" in a suburb of Irving, Texas, had such a strong influence in their music taste that their career path couldn't be in any other genre than Hip Hop.
