Healthy fish stocks are essential for the survival of the local fishing industry, and in turn pivotal for the welfare of coastal communities.
The launch of a powerful patrol boat recently, for use in the De Hoop Marine Protected Area near Cape Agulhas, will make conservation efforts that much easier.
The boat, Carcharodon, was launched last week at Struisbaai, a joint venture by the World Wildlife Fund and Honda Marine.
Anniyah Omardien, manager of the WWF Marine Programme, welcomed the addition of Carcharodon to surveillance and protection efforts. This is the second boat to have been supplied by Honda Marine - the first was at Goukamma.
