Images of animals and traces of rituals from 22,000 years ago have come to light in a cave in France.
The discovery reads like a page from an Indiana Jones script: Three explorers wriggle though 40 feet of slimy tunnel and drop to the floor of an ink-black cave. The beams of their flashlights reveal treasures unseen by human eyes for 22,000 years.
Relics from an Ice Age hunting culture surround the visitors. The walls are decorated with beautifully rendered drawings and engravings of extinct animals: woolly rhinos clashing horns, shaggy mammoths ambling together, lions crouched ready to leap.
