WELLAND Valley Cycling Club had representation in two regional showdowns at the weekend, the Midlands and the South of England championships.
The Midlands event was held at Markeaton Park, Derby, where once again the weather played its part, turning the grassland course into a muddy challenge.
The conditions were so bad that riders with spare bikes had an advantage as they switched every lap to maintain their place in the race.
In the race for veterans aged between 40 and 49, Welland Valley had two brave riders take to the start line, Graham Atkins and Keith Sperry.
