The 2007 shotgun deer season that closes tomorrow will be remembered as pretty special by the few hunters who scored trophy deer.
However, the majority of hunters may choose to forget the bone-chilling cold, loud crunchy snow and no-show deer.
The unofficial numbers of deer checked this season are down by as much as 50 percent at some stations, while only a few reported a good turnout of hunters.
"We're way down this year," Dave Lemieux of D&G Bait & Tackle in Leicester said yesterday. "With days to go, I've only checked in 51 deer compared to about 100 last year.
