Whether you refer to it as "boutique," "artisan" or "handcrafted," small-production winemaking is driving the growth of the U.S. wine industry. According to the Wines & Vines Annual Directory, half of the wineries in North America are producing less than 15,000 cases per year. While many U.S. wine consumers once favored the comfort and consistency of big brands, today's more sophisticated wine drinkers are turning their attention to limited-production labels.
