MELBOURNE, Australia, Dec. 11, 2007 (IPS/GIN) -- Australia's newly-elected Labor Party government has agreed to ratify the Kyoto Protocol, but Prime Minister Kevin Rudd may nevertheless oppose moves to commit rich nations to specific targets on cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
Delegates at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change on the Indonesian resort island of Bali have been working on a draft declaration during the Dec. 3-14 meeting. The summit is aiming to develop a framework under which negotiations for a post-Kyoto climate change agreement can proceed.
