Democrats will gain one seat on all committees in the House of Delegates because of their strong performance in statewide elections last month.
Most House committees have 22 members. Speaker William Howell, R-Stafford, announced Monday that Democrats will be given nine seats on those panels. Previously, they held eight seats.
On the 24-member Appropriations Committee, which helps write the budget, Democrats will occupy 10 seats.
