A FEW WEEKS AGO I went to Street Scene in San Diego to interview Matt Costa and watch him play. The car ride down took four hours, seemingly enough time to get a really great interview--or one might think. I had lots of material and everything looked on the up and up until the tape recorder broke while I was transcribing. I'm pretty lazy, so I decided the best way to interview Matt would be to go to his house and, well, basically not interview him. I'd just hang out and chat and write while we were talking. I'd ask him about his life and music and try to piece it all together. This is what we came up with.
