NEW YORK -- "We want to duplicate the success that we've had in California," said Maria Echaveste, administrator of the Wage and Hour Division of the Labor Department, as she officially launched a special task force Friday.
Echaveste vowed to sniff out sweatshops and purge the apparel and restaurant industries here of substandard working and pay conditions.
"We have the energy here, and we want to make a difference in New York City."
