PARIS -- American retailers, some of the most important sellers of pret-a-porter, are in the perfect position to judge the vitality of current French fashion.
Their perception? Paris is holding its own as the world capital of fashion, but attention must be paid to design innovation, marketing and the increasingly crowded ready-to-wear calendar.
The first thing many leading American retailers say about French fashion today is that it isn't really French.
